"Bradbury Summer, 2007"

Last summer, I created this small hand-sewn art quilt (about 10" x 10"). It began as as a stitch sampler for Susan Sorrell's course on organic shapes, but over the summer of '07 the piece spontaneously 'developed' into this quilt, seeming to form its own designs. I titled it "Bradbury Summer ,2007", because it was the first time I'd read any Ray Bradbury (Farenheit 451) and I loved it, and a close friend was undergoing extremely high-tech treatment for cancer which felt to me like something out of science fiction. The sense of chaos, the 'alternate universe' feeling, and the irregular and randomly placed red/orange shapes resonate with my feelings of chaos, fear, and randomness during that summer. Commercial cotton fabric, embroidery floss, twigs, handspun yarn. About 10" x 10".
