This is the first Chanukah without my Dad here. (The photo is from December 23, 2006 and is one of my favorites. Note the Christmas decorations in the room, since we were at Charlestown, as we were for all our holiday and family celebrations, with some amusing results.)
This year it was hard for me to light the menorah on the first night -- just ask David - and my singing of the blessings was a little weak. But afterwards I felt better, and have tried to light the lights every night I am home. My singing has become stronger and happier.
On Thursday (Dec. 25) Beit Tikvah had a party (Chopsticks and Latkes) where everyone brought latkes or the 'traditional' Chinese food with a 'green' theme. Someone even made green latkes. It was lots of fun, with our own Klezmer band performing original music, and kids playing dreidel, etc. Today my family has our Chanukah celebration at Sherry's, and we will miss my Dad but enjoy being together.
